## Frequently asked questions

### What does an approved Part-147 basic training course include?

An approved Part-147 basic course includes knowledge training, knowledge examinations, practical training and practical assessment. Under 147.A.200, the knowledge element covers the relevant Part-66 category or subcategory, while practical training includes tools and equipment, aircraft parts and representative maintenance activities.

### Can I use training notes during a Part-147 basic knowledge examination?

No. Part-147 basic knowledge examinations must be conducted without training notes. Under 147.A.205, they must follow the Part-66 examination standard and cover a representative cross section of subjects from the particular module of training completed.

### How is Part-147 basic practical training assessed?

Nominated practical assessors assess students during the basic course at the end of each visit period to the practical workshops or maintenance facility. Under 147.A.210 and 147.A.200(e), students must achieve an assessed pass demonstrating competence in using tools and equipment and working in accordance with maintenance manuals.

### What happens if a student cheats in a Part-147 examination?

A student found cheating during a knowledge examination is disqualified and may not take any examination for at least 12 months after the incident. Under 147.A.135(b), the same applies to possession of subject-related material other than examination papers and associated authorised documentation. The competent authority must be informed, with enquiry details, within one calendar month.

### Can the hours of a Part-147 basic training course be changed?

Yes, under the conditions in 147.A.200(g). Hours may be amended to benefit from changes in theoretical training technologies and methods or the Part-66 credits specified there. The syllabus content and schedule must describe and justify the proposed changes, and the MTOE must include a procedure to justify them.
