## Type and task training

Aircraft type and task training is its own Part-147 approval. It is an approval to carry out Part-66 aircraft type and/or task training, and only where that training complies with point 66.A.45.

[147.A.300 (full rule text)](https://avioverse.aero/regulations/easa/continuing-airworthiness/part-147/section-a-technical-requirements/147-a-300) Aircraft type/task training

> A maintenance training organisation shall be approved to carry out Annex III (Part-66) aircraft
>
> type and/or task training subject to compliance with the standard specified in point 66.A.45.

Quoted word for word from Regulation (EU) No 1321/2014, Easy Access Rules for Continuing Airworthiness, 2 Sep 2025 revision.

The training organisation does not set the type standard. Point 66.A.45 does. How the licence is endorsed is the subject of the [Part-66 experience and application guide](https://avioverse.aero/guides/part-66-experience-requirements-application).

## Evaluation and assessment

[147.A.305 (full rule text)](https://avioverse.aero/regulations/easa/continuing-airworthiness/part-147/section-a-technical-requirements/147-a-305) Aircraft type evaluation and task assessment

> A maintenance training organisation approved in accordance with point 147.A.300 to conduct
>
> aircraft type training shall conduct the aircraft type evaluation or aircraft task assessment
>
> specified in Annex III (Part-66) subject to compliance with the aircraft type and/or task
>
> standard specified in point 66.A.45 of Annex III (Part-66).

Quoted word for word from Regulation (EU) No 1321/2014, Easy Access Rules for Continuing Airworthiness, 2 Sep 2025 revision.

The organisation approved to conduct aircraft type training shall conduct the aircraft type evaluation or the aircraft task assessment. Both stay subject to the standard in point 66.A.45.

To exercise certification privileges on a specific aircraft type, the holder needs the licence endorsed with the relevant aircraft ratings. Point (a) then lists those ratings. This page does not restate that list.

Point (b) is the aircraft type training, or the competent-authority type training for a gas airship on a B2 or L5 licence. Point (c) adds the corresponding on-the-job training for the first aircraft type rating in a category or subcategory, for other than category C licences. Gas-airship on-the-job training shall be directly approved by the competent authority. Point (c) continues after the sentences quoted here.

Point (d) is a derogation from points (b) and (c) for Group 2 and 3 aircraft: a type evaluation, and, for B1 and B2, practical experience in the aircraft type. The on-the-job training in point (c) is not added on top of that derogation. Point (d) continues after the sentences quoted here.

## How this feeds the licence

Identify the route first. Part-147 type training is the training in point (b). The first rating in a category or subcategory other than C also has the on-the-job training in point (c), except where point (d) is the derogation being used. The [Part-66 experience and application guide](https://avioverse.aero/guides/part-66-experience-requirements-application) places the rating next to basic knowledge and experience.

## Where to read it yourself

Type and task training are 147.A.300 and 147.A.305 in Annex IV (Part-147). The endorsement rule is 66.A.45 in Annex III (Part-66), and Appendix III to that annex is the type-training standard those points name. All of this is in the EASA **Easy Access Rules for Continuing Airworthiness** (Regulation (EU) No 1321/2014). Every citation in this guide was checked against the **2025-09-02 revision**.

## Frequently asked questions

### Who can provide aircraft type and task training under Part-147?

A maintenance training organisation approved for aircraft type or task training under 147.A.300 can provide it, subject to the standard in 66.A.45. Under 147.A.305, an organisation approved to conduct aircraft type training must also conduct the specified aircraft type evaluation or task assessment.

### Does completing aircraft type training automatically give certification privileges?

No. Under 66.A.45(a), the licence must be endorsed with the relevant aircraft ratings before the holder can exercise certification privileges on a specific aircraft type. Type training is part of the endorsement route; point (c) also requires corresponding on-the-job training for the first type rating within a category or subcategory other than C, subject to the Group 2 and 3 derogation.

### Can B1 and B2 Group 2 or 3 type ratings use an evaluation route?

Yes. Under 66.A.45(d), B1 and B2 applicants can use the relevant aircraft type evaluation together with practical experience in that aircraft type. The experience must cover a representative cross section of maintenance activities relevant to the licence category. This route is a derogation from the type-training and on-the-job-training requirements in points (b) and (c).

### What training is required for a gas airship type rating on a B2 or L5 licence?

For a gas airship type rating on a B2 or L5 licence, 66.A.45(b) requires satisfactory completion of type training approved by the competent authority under 66.B.130. For the first type rating within the category or subcategory, the corresponding on-the-job training must also be directly approved by the competent authority.
